Visiting Researchers

The CBCD is a thriving and internationally recognised research centre. We welcome research visitors from the UK and around the world.

If you would like to visit, there are several steps you must follow:

Find a CBCD scientific staff member willing to sponsor you. Relevant staff are listed here. Only contact one person at a time.
All visitors are expected to have proficient English for communication (oral and written).
Visitors are responsible for any necessary visa requirements.
In line with other UK universities, visitors will be changed £500 per term, with term dates set by Birkbeck’s teaching calendar. A minimum charge of £500, regardless of length of stay, applies.
If visitors wish to conduct research within our laboratories, they must have funds to cover associated costs. This may include access charges, participant expenses and consumables.
Any visitor conducting research with minors must have an enhanced DBS certificate less than three years old, or their home country equivalent.
Visiting Researchers must be current postgraduate research (PGR) students, lecturers, readers or professors at universities in the UK or overseas, with a viable programme of research. Visitors must have solid rationale for justifying why visiting the CBCD or the BabyLab & ToddlerLab is necessary for their professional development and learning.
